Horton Plains located 2300 meters above the sea level and there are stunning landscapes around the Horton Plains. Horton Plains history goes back to Great King Ravana’s period and folktales say Horton Plains was one of his Garden and planted many medicine pants anyhow Horton Plains is the national park recorded highest number of Endemic flora and fauna in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka zoology association says 10–15% flora in Horton Plains, Endemic to Sri Lanka and grown in Horton Plains only. 

Horton Plains are the head-waters, three major rivers out of four rivers in Sri Lanka and Mahaweli, Kalani and Walawe rivers start from the Horton Plains.   

Horton Plains National Park encompasses montane grassland and cloud forest. In the colonial era, British planters cultivated potato in Horton Plains, but in 1969 again converted as a national park.

Trekking in Horton Plains (8 Km) – Soft level

It is soft trekking around the Horton Plains and approx. distance 8 Km. you will explore the grassland landscaping. the attractions of Horton Plains trekking.

It is located southern boundary of the Horton Plains and world’s end mean cliff. If not misty, you can see balangoda Town, that 34 km away from the Horton Plains–World’s end.   

• Baker’s Waterfall

It is great relaxing and romantic place in Horton Plains and height of the Baker’s fall is 20 meters. Belihul Oya water stream and Walawe river starting from Baker’s waterfall.     

 Kirigalpotta Trekking and Hiking (14 Km) – Medium level 

 Kirigalpotta in west of Horton Plains and it is the 2^nd tallest mountain in Sri Lanka (2388 meters). Sri Lanka's highest mountain is Piduruthalagala, but it is not open for access to civilians hence Kirigalpotta is the highest mountain that civilians able to access. Kirigalpotta trekking and hiking tour total distance 14 Km. it is not a hard trail and no matter of the age and everyone able to reach summit comfortably. Kirigalpotta trail high possibility of spotting rhino-horned lizard, but rhino-horned lizard spread everywhere in Horton plains. 

The vertebrate fauna of the region includes 24 species of mammals, 87 species of birds, nine species of reptiles and eight species of amphibians.

Thotupolakanda mountain Hiking and Trekking (10 Km) – Medium Level

Thotupolakanda is the 3^rd highest mountain in Nuwara Eliya and approx. trekking and hiking distance 10 Km. Thotupolakanda located north of the Horton Plains and Thotupolakanda literally meaning is landing site, that’s meaning Great King Rawana’s Dadumonara Yanthraya (kind of Aircraft) landed in that mountain. However, Thotupolakanda highly bio-diversified place in Horton Plains National Park and 2357 m above the sea level.
