Horton Plains Trekking is the high altitude trekking excursion in Sri Lanka and it is romantic trekking excursion… Trekking in Horton Plains takes around 4 – 5 hours and Horton Plains is highly protected area by Sri Lanka Wild Life department due to highly important biodiversity in this area and recorded many fauna and flora endemic species in Horton Plains. Most important thing is those are limited to Horton Plains. Horton Plains National is a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and it is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest. This plateau at an altitude of 2,100–2,300 metres (6,900–7,500 ft)

Hoton plains are invented by Mr. Horton who was animal hunter in British governing period. Earlier this place is identified as ‘Maha Eliya’. Eliya means Plains and Maha means Big. In this case real meaning of this name is a Large Plain.

According to a recent count there are 16 Leopards in Horton Plains. If you are very lucky you may get a glimpse of a Leopard during your sojourn in the Horton Plains.

Kirigalpatha Mountain

Kigalpotha trail is the final trekking trail of your Sri Lanka Trekking Holiday and located west side of the Horton Plains. Kirigalpotha is the second highest mountain of Sri Lanka (2388 meters) but it is the highest mountain accessible to civil people. Entire trekking is 16 km and completely uninhabited area, characterised by intermittent patches of forest and savanna and there are many endemic varieties. Kirigalpotha is the best place observe horn chameleon in Sri Lanka. Finally you will reach to top of the mountain and it is the place writes about epic story of Sri Lanka Trekking Holiday.
