Kithulgala (Kegalle)
Kithulgala located west part of the island and bordering to Kandy, Nuwara Eliya district. Kithulgala is the best place for inland watersports in central part of the Sri Lanka. Kithulgala is not a historical city like Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, etc.
Kithulgala is boarding to 8th Kingdom of Sithawaka kingdom (one before the last kingdom of Kandy) and Kithulgala literary mean is “fishtail palm tree (Caryota urens) village in hill”. Still, you can see many fishtail palms all over the places and because of the fishtail palm trees made the city named as “Kithulgala”. Kithulgala specialised since ancient time manufacturing using its sap concentrated into delicious syrup, jaggery, and something also fermented it to make palm wine.
Kithulgala blessed by Kalani River and until the year of 1998, key income sources are rubber and fishtail palm products. In 1998 introduced “White Water Rafting” and it naturally blessed with Kalani river,rapids may support to do the thrilling, adventurous white-water rafting. After the introducing Rafting in Kithulgala, it is becoming famous touristic place and key income source became Tourism.
